22 September 1951.
3 years before the family moved from
Kampong Soopoo to our Bedok kampong house, our father and some friends went to
the Padang and bore witness to the official ceremony to confer the new status of
Singapore being now called a City and no more a Town by His Royal Majesty King
George VI. Here are some archival photos taken that day with originals now
donated to the National Library Board.
Father even had collected a ‘first-day-cover’
collection of stamps to commemorate that day as he was an avid stamp collector.
